no. 21 fall 2013 rtw

No. 21 heavily embellished the familiar but winning combination of a masculine/feminine aesthetic. Quite literally. Sequins were implemented with a daytime grunge manner. Indeed, the collection echoed current street style attire; it felt relaxed, even 'uptight' pieces such as the grey pencil skirt was juxtaposed with a sequined sweatshirt and a volumous coat. Although the sight of jumpers wrapped around models did make me chuckle, a throwback 90s influence which just reminded me of being a hot and flustered 8 years old tying my sweatshirt around my waist after a tiresome game of Rounders. Nevertheless, I'm now on the lookout for crystal-covered socks [image 3] - potential DIY?

the whites of spring

The Whites of Spring/ W March 2013/ Photographer: Craig McDean

Just chillin' at my desk full of flowers....
Sometimes the impractically of fashion editorials annoys me, other times I just go with it. Mainly because it's just pretty.

topshop unique fall 2013 rtw

You've got to hand it to Topshop, they really have thought of innovative ways of bringing LFW to the mass of fashion obsesses. Topshop's Youtube channel affirms their desire to transform the 'future of the fashion show'. Watching the Topshop Unique show was a pleasant experience; the vast, grey, concrete surroundings of the Tate Modern became the perfect backdrop for the trail of cool Unique models stomping down the catwalk. A couple of other snazzy features set Topshop's live streaming apart from others: models were installed with hidden cameras so the viewer could truly view the show through the eyes of a model. Additionally, the option to 'shoot the show' with personal screen grabs which could be shared on various social networking sites, was a neat touch. I'm not sure if this will be the future of fashion, but I admire the high-street hero's attempts of shaking things up in the fashion world.

Anyway, back to the show. The highlight of the show were most definitely the midi skirts. A fifties silhouette made modern paired  with bare midriffs, slouchy jackets and the use of sequins and PVC (a little tacky, but in a good way). They were scattered all over the catwalk and ruled over it's mini counterpart by being polished as well as sexy. The use of powder pink took me by surprise, but even more so when I realised such a girly colour can look edgy. It's something, I feel, only a brand like Topshop can do well.

snapshots of fashion week #1

A sprinkling of photos from NYFW as captured by T Magazine. They have captured some beautiful photography, my favourite probably being the finale of Marc Jacobs cast in sunset and shadow.

elizabeth and james fall 2013 rtw

The Olsen twins have succeeded in creating a cool, slick collection yet again. I much prefer Elizabeth and James over The Row - it has a younger and more wearable vibe. The coats and bags are my personal highlights of the collection. Textured long coats in vibrant colours teamed with large, patterned bags gripped almost like a clutch bag. Proportions are relaxed with slouchy jumpers and wide leg trousers, but balanced out with cropped trousers and straight-cut coats keeping the silhouette refined.

highstreet gem #1: sheer t-shirt

I can imagine wearing this sheer t-shirt in many different ways. With a nod to the monochrome trend, layered over a simple white t-shirt would give a daytime look extra dimension. It could easily be worn at night over a black vest or a figure hugging dress, or even just a bandeau. A no brainer, easy to wear, beautiful top.
No #1 on my current wishlist.

3.1 phillip lim fall 2013 ftw

I honestly struggled not to post the whole of the 3.1 Phillip Lim collection. I love it all. Phillip Lim always successfully showcases the art of layering in his 3.1 collections, but I was overwhelmed by his unique ability yet again. Shirts under sweatshirts, leather jackets under coats, Phillip Lim provides the perfect antidote to the presently blizzard conditions in New York. Okay, I'm not exactly saying his clothes are made for snowy weather, but his focus on outerwear making outfits rather than being an annoying addition, made me love the collection even more. It screamed attitude with leather on leather garms, knee high boots, and punchy make-up.
More of the same please, Phillip Lim.
