snapshots of fashion week #1

A sprinkling of photos from NYFW as captured by T Magazine. They have captured some beautiful photography, my favourite probably being the finale of Marc Jacobs cast in sunset and shadow.

elizabeth and james fall 2013 rtw

The Olsen twins have succeeded in creating a cool, slick collection yet again. I much prefer Elizabeth and James over The Row - it has a younger and more wearable vibe. The coats and bags are my personal highlights of the collection. Textured long coats in vibrant colours teamed with large, patterned bags gripped almost like a clutch bag. Proportions are relaxed with slouchy jumpers and wide leg trousers, but balanced out with cropped trousers and straight-cut coats keeping the silhouette refined.

3.1 phillip lim fall 2013 ftw

I honestly struggled not to post the whole of the 3.1 Phillip Lim collection. I love it all. Phillip Lim always successfully showcases the art of layering in his 3.1 collections, but I was overwhelmed by his unique ability yet again. Shirts under sweatshirts, leather jackets under coats, Phillip Lim provides the perfect antidote to the presently blizzard conditions in New York. Okay, I'm not exactly saying his clothes are made for snowy weather, but his focus on outerwear making outfits rather than being an annoying addition, made me love the collection even more. It screamed attitude with leather on leather garms, knee high boots, and punchy make-up.
More of the same please, Phillip Lim.

tanya taylor fall 2013 rtw

A snippet view of newcomer Tanya Taylor's fall collection. I especially love the combination of black and mandarian orange, as well as the sixties feel to the pieces.

thakoon fall 2013 rtw

The sprinkle of dandelion prints at Thakoon's fall collection evoked a winter garden theme. The juxtaposition of prints and black lace underlay kept the pieces from looking too delicate, especially when paired with gold and silver metallic boots (which I secretly loved). The lux furs were kept modern with the twinkle of glitter eye makeup and ear cuffs, which kept the collection from looking too whimsical. Thakoon's Addition collection still has the edge for me, but I still admire Panichgul's summer-come-winter vibe in his main-line.

jill stuart fall 2013 rtw

I spent Saturday reading UK Vogue and watching live streaming of NYFW. Yeah, I know how to live. I find watching runway strangely addictive; the theatrical element of it draws me in. Anyway, Jill Stuart's runway popped up and I was enthralled by the pretty dresses on display. Using my favourite palette (black), Stuart created a series of lux mini-dresses awash with intricate detail
and textured fabrics. It also made me really want a glitter turtleneck jumper (see image 4). Admittedly, I felt the collection fell short towards the end, the introduction of stripes (not pictured) felt brash against the dark romantic vibe of the formentioned dresses.
Nevertheless, a pleasant surprise from Jill Stuart.
