However hard I try to bring myself to wear colour right now, I just can't. Winter weather has finally set in and i'm reaching for all things black, navy and grey in my wardrobe. Boring? I think not. Mixing black with interesting silhouettes (both structured and unstructured), textures, and details makes an all black outfit less 'goth' more 'chic'. I especially really like the slouchy black sweatshirt and sliver threaded chiffon shirt paired with studded trainers, the perfect edgy combination. Update a lacklustre black jumper by wearing it over a floaty maxi skirt, a crisp white shirt or a pair of checked tapered trousers.

what i wish i was wearing #2
via le fashion
Super cute outfit. The oversized navy knit keeps the skirt and bow from looking too sugary sweet. Makes me want to dig out my American Apparel hair bows.

monki wishlist
I really really like Monki. I love their simple aesthetic, reminiscent to American Apparel and Cos but without the hefty price tag. I'd say my dress sense is pretty minimalistic, but I like clothes with a bit of a twist. Being a massive fan of shirts I love the Frida shirt with contrast coloured sleeves, and can't resist a checked shirt so the Millie one is great for Winter. I also really like the fact their clothes have actual names, it's cute because it gives them a character. I only hope Monki will expand across the UK so people like me don't have to plan their next trip to London solely to coincide with a spending spree at Monki!

road movie
Road Movie/Numero No. 67 June/July 2005/ Photographer: Nathaniel Goldberg
This makes me want to go on a road trip. Although, in reality, I doubt any road trip of mine would be anywhere near as glamourous as this.

electric blue
These street style photographs by The Sartorialist have re-kindled my love for electric blue. It's a powerful, striking, and rich colour. Stella McCartney's A/W 2012/3 collection used blue beautifully. When worn bold, head to toe, it's utterly mesmerising. If you were rocking one of these Stella's dresses at your Christmas party (too early?), all eyes would be on you. A bit too much? Mix blue with grey or black to play it safe.
Personally, I think I'll be wearing my pleated electric blue midi with a grey sweatshirt.

trend watch: trainers/90s revival
Not so much a 'trend watch' but a
trend awareness. I'm referring to the revival of 90s fashion where countless
bloggers have been reminiscing about 'the good old days', posting pictures
of the Spice Girls and 90s editorials for nostalgic inspiration (okay maybe not
the Spice Girls, something more cool/quirky/less mainstream but still
undeniably showcasing the epitome of 90s fashion). Besides 90s grudge, I'm
talking about 'casual chic': heavily branded designer clothing, big white
trainers, bomber jackets, and tracksuits (sorry
couldn't resist). Although this all doesn't sound too appealing, echoes of the
90s have most definitely transferred on the catwalk and into the wardrobes of
the trendsetting girls of East London.
Even more surprisingly, I've been caught up
with this buzz. Not so much 90s clothing, but with trainers. Nikes in
particular. Suddenly trainers have become trendy and fashionable, not just on
Christmas lists for people who only shop in JJB Sports. Designers have clearly picked
up on the rise of women's trainer sales, collaborations such as Nike x Liberty
verify this. Trainers now come in trendy styles and colours - camel
high Dunks, accents
of neon and leather, as well as
the controversial wedge platforms. The very fact that Nike clothing has been featured on women's ASOS shows how far the brand has come. Maybe trainers just haven't been on my horizon until
recently, but I do think Nike's move towards a more feminine, fashionable
market in the last few years is great. And let’s face it, while you look hot
trotting around wearing your Louboutins, us women do really long for
comfortable shoes (preferably NOT from Clarks). So yeah, reaching for
your 90s throwback trainers may not be a bad thing, especially if worn like the
girls above wear them in 2012. With careful outfit planning, wearing trainers
can look modern, understated and most importantly - comfy.
Channel the Anywho girls for extra inspiration.

Backstage at Rochas, photography by Billy Nava. Amazing shots, even better clothes. Can't get over the skirt in the sixth shot. Enough said.
